Each year, the Cherry Blossom Festival downtown marks the true beginning of Spring in DC. We are reaching prime Cherry Blossom peak, and then they will all be gone. These beautiful flowers tell so much more of a story that many people do not know. They were actually a gift to the city in 1912 by Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo. The gift of 3,000 trees was to honor the long lasting friendship between Japan and the US.
This gift has never had more meaning. With the recent catastrophic events in Japan, this is a perfect reminder of how important it is to help our fellow man. Here are some ways that you can help the relief efforts:
Donate to American Red Cross
or download Songs for Japan on iTunes featuring 38 songs from an amazing set of artists.

What a great post! The cherry blossoms are simply gorgeous. I'm a little bit south of you, ours started blooming early this year. I love them and am always sad to see them go.
